I don't know what I am defending anymore

Young Singaporeans like Lim Zi Rui are becoming increasingly disillusioned and they’re not afraid to let it show. The 23-year-old final-year aerospace engineering student was among a 1,000-strong crowd who attended a Ministerial Forum organised on Friday by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Students’ Union. Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong was the guest-of-honour.

My view
This is perhaps the strongest and most serious feedback sent to a top government leader about the state of unhappiness of the people of Singapore.

Soldiering is to defend one's country from foreign invasion. Protection and preseverance of national and domestic lifestyle and livelihood.

If the gates to easy visas are opened, what's there to defend? Nobody needs to invade us to come in for a share of the pie anymore. Just apply for a visa. The logical conclusions are only three.

1. To defend the powers-that-be in case of a foreigners' revolt.

2. To defend the powers-that-be in case of a domestic revolt.

3. To control prime-age male citizen population movements with exit permit requirements.

Bravo ! Good to have a brave young officer speak up.(my guess only) SM Goh must be having a restless weekend. Maybe the GE will be pushed back, if they dig deeper and listen more. For some, we are past the point-of-no-return already.......

These ministers are definitely enjoying life in their highrise ivory towers with misty vision on the ground let alone a feel of the peoples' sentiment.

Remember the famous "MORE GOOD YEARS" promise?

The question is for who??????????????

The result shown it wasn't for you and me but themselves with million$ salary, oversized team.

most sporeans around 66% are suffering from Stockholm syndrome i.e. a paradoxical psychological phenomenon wherein hostages express adulation and have positive feelings towards their captors that appear irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, essentially mistaking a lack of abuse from their captors as an act of kindness.

the clear minded folks will have long ago realised there is nothing to defend. you will only be defending the interests of the oligarchs, the very ppl who are petty, arrogant, vindictive, & holding u and Spore hostage and using it as a 'human shield' to prolong their self-interests.

There are no borders when it comes to employment.
We must realise and accept this.

Do not confuse ourselves with allegiance to family & country.
Ask any PR here if they will return to their countries of birth to defend it and they will say "yes!"

We must never be loyal to our employers. We switch employers where suitable for our own benefit.
They, after all, will switch us where suitable!

There are many instances where people change employers to seek their own niche and objectives.
In the Sunday Times today, we read about an ex LTA employee moving to Hong Kong to work for the Hong Kong MTR.

Have a dream and live it.
If Singapore cannot help you achieve your dream, move and seek.
There is nothing wrong doing it.

But come back to cha kway teow and Chicken rice to defend it!!

Lim has an issues with foreign talent taking away his job but in reply SM Goh talks about the construction workers who built HDB flats. SM Goh should note that most Singaporeans do not mind theupresence of construction workers

That's why I downgraded out of reservist after 2.5yrs combat NSF. Not worth it, after seeing many foreigners being given red carpet treatment and easy access to PMET and white-collar jobs. This was back in the mid-1990s, with the Hongkies and Indonesian chinese. My former colleague, an Indo chinese, got his first job at S'pore stat board from interview at S'pore High Commission in Australia where he was studying Uni!! Never been or seen S'pore before but just given the invitation card. He is not scholar and his Uni grades are just average. After just 5 months in S'pore, he kept getting letters from govt to become PR and went for many dinner gatherings organised by SIF/ICA to encourage them.
When I applied for private sector jobs, I made sure I highlighted that I got no reservist at all. I strongly believed this was 1 of the factors in my favour, from feedback from acquaintances in HR sector, especially when going up against many female candidates and PRs.
Now it's much worse with even more hordes of foreigners taking PMET jobs and pushing Singaporean expiry-date down to 35 yrs. It's no wonder that many who are unable or don't know how to escape from reservist are furious.
