I drove to Cricket Club for a lunch and to Changi Road for a meeting.
My experience?
* the traffic is congested at the Central Expressway and in town
* I could not find a parking space at or near the building in Changi Road
My conclusion: better to use public transport or taxis. It has less hassle.
I agree that the traffic is getting a lot more congested over the last 2-3 years. I hardly drive now. Partly because I am not working. But even if I have to go somewhere. I try to take public transport. I think the we need to cut down the COE and LTA should consider refund (ARF/PARF)for those who wants to give up their cars like retirees. What is the use of having a car but you can't "really" drive?
ReplyDeleteI do not own a car, but I am driving my bro in law's car. Basically, I am servicing his loan as he was posted overseas for about 2 1/2 yrs.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of this year, I will be returning the car to him.
I was considering to get a car, even a COE car. However, my friends advice me against in getting a car that is more than 10yrs old.
I do not make much a month, but my company provides me travel allowance and also petrol claims of up to $300.
But, with the traffic, I am now considering going for Car Sharing, under NTUC car coop and city speed. I think the offer very good value even for people who already own cars.
As a member, you get to rent different types of cars. So, you get to drive different cars. On top of that, the rent also covers insurance and petrol.
In summary,
- No ROad tax to pay
- No Insurance to pay (yearly)
- No HDB season parking ticket to pay.
- No need to worry about people scratching your car.
- No need to worry about car depreciation after 2 - 3 years
