ReplyDeleteI hope that more people will sign this letter, as Mr. Jeyaretname represents a person who will fight for social justice and for the rights of the ordinary Singaporeans who face injustice.
I have read his book containing his speeches in Parliament and get to know him well (which is quite different from how he was described in the mainstream papers).
Pls include me. Thanks!

JB Jeyaretnam was an extraordinary character dedicated to an alternative cause for Singapore and paid for with huge personal sacrifice. Unfortunately this also ended with his death. It will be difficult, if not impossible, even over time, to find another to match his tenacity, conviction and sacrifice because many are resigned to its futility in uniquely Singapore. And this may not be good for the future of the nation.
ReplyDeleteI have created a new Petition to ask for signatories to provide their particulars.
ReplyDeleteI now have 6 signatures.
I now have 15 signatures. I expected more signatures. The small number could be due to:
ReplyDelete1. People have a negative opinion about Mr JB Jeyaretnam (due to negative reporting in the mainstream newspaper)
2. People are afraid of showing support for him.
I like to ask you to be courageous.
I have just signed in to support this movement.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not politically- inclined, Mr JB Jeyaretnam's courage and conviction to see things in proper order won my admiration. He fought hard and paid out his bankruptcy. It wasn't a small sum of money, mind you. He could live comfortably but he chose not to do so.
Deep inside me I feel very sad that our society has so little tolerance for people like him who meant well unselfishly.
I sincerely hope Singapore is a "safe and sound" home for our posterity.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out -
ReplyDeletebecause I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out -
because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out -
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me.

I am not saying the PAP are NAZIs, but we must not allow a culture of fear to grip our nation. I have signed.
