Survey - social benefits and taxation

Do you prefer the state (i.e. Government) to provide less social benefits and reduce taxes, or to provide more social benefits (to be funded by higher taxes). Give your views in this survey.

Here are the survey results.

  1. I find the survey questions rather difficult to answer accurately from a layman's view-point. Maybe some comparisons with other nations could provide a sound basis. Look at countries like Japan, Sweden, France may be helpful etc.

It is my belief that in Singapore, a lot is paid as indirect taxes. One example is HDB flats. Why as Singaporeans, the cost of HDB flat is hidden and not transparent? To me, this means the profit is beyond imagination. May be more than 50 percent of sale price.

The result is we become too expensive, hence our jobs are given to cheap foreigners.

The sad thing is these profits have evaporated from our coffers from losses in US, UK, Swiss banks.
Can we ask the government to pay us compensation for this losses, as well as the loss of our jobs?

  2. Yesterday was a sad day for me.
My best friend have successfully applied for Australia PR with a view to citizenship and he will be moving there next year to fulfil the residency requirement.

But it was a smart move, he figured he couldn't afford to retire in singapore. So he rather pay high taxes now while he is still able to work in australia and if anything bad happens to him, he knows the taxes he paid will be used to take care of him in future by the govt.

We both liked the Aussie Govt and more likely Aussie Culture of "Fair Go".
