Privacy of patient data

According to this report from the consultant McKinsey, it is better for the patient records to be available for analysis and hold doctors accountable to deliver the expected level of care. Campaigners for privacy may be playing into the hands of people who does not wish to be accountable for their mistakes or bad practice. This is an interesting conclusion.

  1. I've lived for many years in the US, where privacy campaigns are very strong. However, as time went by, I realised that most of them are silent non-campaigners as far as medical records are concerned. In fact, they understand it to be for their own good and general good. However, the medical privacy campaigners are more vocal and more media savvy. There're agenda and reasons for this, e.g. personally embarrassing records of sexually transmitted diseases or drug abuses.

  2. Dear Mr Tan,

Could you kindly comment on the situation/pros&cons of reverse mortgage? My parents took a 2.5k "loan" paid by NTUC every month since 2002. Now I would like to find ways to repay the loan as to keep the house or should we just sell it.. I am against the idea of selling it away as i believe that land is limited in singapore, and this property is freehold and in ideal location, over the next 10 years, it may increase alot..

I'm 25 this year and am not sure if i could keep up with such a debt, could you please kindly advise?

    my email address is neverbeensolost@gmail.com

    Thank you

I think it is a good deal for NTUC. I think it is a good deal for your parents because they have money they have use more to feed themselves or invest. After all, money in the present is better than money in the future. Finally, your parents don't need the house after you are married. NTUC is a good entity, they will take good care of your FH after many years done the road.
