Paul Krugman has always said it like it is. He has been mostly correct with his assessment of the recent global financial crisis, before, during and after.
Krugman does not take kindly to the Singapore's so-called economic miracle. See Krugman's "The Myth of Asia's Miracle" (http://web.mit.edu/krugman/www/myth.html ). Can it be that Paul Krugman, the Nobel Prize winner (in Economics) is wrong about Singapore and that the half-baked spin doctors in the PAP government are correct?
ours is not corrupt but only asked too much ($) and do too little. When come to problems they cannot or don't want to solve e.g. Minibond, HN5, Jubillee & Pinnacle Notes victims, MAS and Govt all of a sudden become deaf frogs.
There is nothing miraculous about Singapore's economy. We started out at the right time and at the right place, and with help of Singaporeans' hard work ethics and triftiness, of course we could make it. But if we were to start from scratch now, we would be whacked hard. There are many types of corruption in this world - we have money corruptiuon, corruption in kind in the form of expensive gifts, time corruption in the form of wasting someone's time, and last but least, power corruption. So, according to Krugman, do we have corruption in Singapore?
President Obama has promised to keep his house in order. Whether or not the playful boys and girls will listen and obey him is hard to say.
ReplyDeleteBut, at least Obama has promised, will he keep his words?
