Singapore scored 20th in this survey. It ranked 3rd in Asia behind Japan and South Korea but is ahead of the other countries.
Most of the countries ahead of Singapore are in Europe, but they also include the America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
One problem with these surveys by Newsweek, Business Week, Economist et al, is that they tend to be biased towards highly paid western expats on generous terms (compared to typical local singaporean).
ReplyDeleteE.g. The median wage of a US worker is US$4,000/month. And expats in S'pore will expect to be paid much higher.
Without their expat terms, coverage for private hospitals, rentals at D9,10,11 condos, paid expenses for expensive but stress-free international schools, their scores will be much lower.
The only score that is accurate would be for Political Environment, since this affects all about the same, whether singaporean or western expat.
Singapore can never be the New York of the East. Shanghai possibly can. Singapore can never be the diamond of South East Asia with LKY around.
