Activate a credit card

I received a new POSB credit card to replace the previous card. The mailer asked me to "Activate the card immediately". I search for instructions in the mailer on how to activate the card. There was no such instruction. Why does a bank give instructions that are confusing to the customers?

  1. Agree with you on the confusing statement.

Actually, there is no need to activate the card to be able to use the credit card feature. Only ezlink needs to be activated. To activate ezlink, approach mrt ticket office and do a minimum top up of $10. To activate ezreload, go to www.ezlink.com.sg to get an activation code.

  2. I believe it does state on the letter that the card will be activated with the first transaction that one makes with the new card. at least that is what it said for my POSB everyday replacement card.

  4. Yes, one activate their credit card upon 1st time usage. It's advised to sign on your card too (at the back). If the card is tied to your ATM, with a pin number, replacing your current ATM card, then there should be an instruction note on how to activate the ATM card via the ATM machine (however I found not all the DBS/POSB machine allows that). Alternatively, sign the form and mail it back to them for activation of the ATM function.
