Google Driverless Car

I am fascinated with the Google project to develop a driver-less car. It uses technology to drive the car and is safer than being driven by a person. I believe that there is big potential for this driver-less car to be used like a taxi.

Imagine, You use a mobile phone to book for a driver-less car nearby. It comes to your location. You enter the place you want to go. It brings you there. The car is then available to be used by another commuter.

  1. I personally thinks that the driver-less car can only be used as a taxi.

Some people purchase a car because they want control over when, where and how they are going to reach his/her destination. The urge to have control over their way of travel, in short, freedom, is the main reason behind their purchase of a vehicle and the Google driver-less car takes this "freedom" away from them. With the "freedom" taken away from them, what's the point of owning a car?

Of course, not all is bad about having a driver-less car. Imagine this, one is severely derived of sleep and is not in the optimum condition to be behind the wheels, doesn't that make a driver-less car a very good option, as it allows you to get to your destination and rest at the same time?

Maybe we (shouldn't depend on Google for everything) should develop a car that can have driver and be driver-less, depending of the user's needs and wants.

  2. I would opt for a driverless car if it becomes available.

Imagine a "chaffeur" without paying the annual salary :)

  4. It sounds like the automatic Taxi driver from the movie "Total Recall" from 1990.
