I'd advise using a debit card over the internet. As a debit card is linked to your bank account, keep that account between between S$500 to 1,000, to avoid below-minimum service charge but not too high as well, in case of fraudulent charge.
Don't use a credit card with $5,000credit limit or above over the internet. Sticking with reputable websites is commonsense but we'd never know what hackers do next.
For big ticket items like e.g. airfare or tour package, you can top up your account just enough for that transaction to go through.
At restaurants, forget about the stylish place the card on the bill folder for the waiter to bring to the cashier. If you like that style, pay cash. If you must pay by card, whether credit or debit, get the bill and go to the cashier.
