There is an article in SGEP that the PAP has entered the digital warfare. I have experienced this event in my blog. Here is what has happened.
I created a survey on "voting at the General Election 2011". I asked the respondent to give one vote per person and to provide their true identity. However, there is no way for me to prevent repeated entries, as I was using Google Forms. All went well during the first day. I received 150 responses. They appear to respect my request for honestly. About 10% were in favor of the PAP, 70% were against and 20% were undecided.
This was followed by 50 consecutive replies that were in favor of the PAP. These replies were submitted by the same person, and were about 30 seconds apart. I decided to close the survey, due to this sabotage. It is digital warfare and done dishonestly.

I noticed that the wikipedia blogs about PAP people are just a way of advertising them also.
ReplyDeleteeverything written is good only.
They will learn from this and "Improve" the next round, asking their "supporters" to submit. It is just like the sms voting during those "talent contests" that Channel 8 is famous for !
ReplyDeleteAnyway, what is new ? The on-going Budget debate with Grants/Help coming fast & furious one after another do need careful reading & analysis. Dare to say, many will be found to be not-so-helpful.
Not surprising the PAP is following the example of Col Gaddafi. PAP has taken the slippery road to self-destruction.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe that someone from PAP may have tried to distort the survey results. However, it is wrong to straight away dismiss that action as unfair or wrong.
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe that the average profile of the visitors to this blog are not representaive of the average Singaporean. Many could be against the PAP & supports the opposition parties.
Hence, the survey results are not represenative of the decision of an average Singaporean.
PAP may just wish to prevent this unfair survey results from influencing the masses.
I do respect Mr. Tan Kin Lian for many of his qualities. However, in this case, I am just stating my view.
Over the last few years, the PAP brand has already come to be associated with insensitivity, non-accountability, high-handedness, and such. Honesty and integrity are definitely not words used either.

ReplyDeleteI have mentioned many times that the survey results produced from this blog reflects the views of the readers and not the general population. Many readers are aware of this distinction.
But this does not make it legitimate for someone to be posting multiple entries with the aim to distort the survey results.
To Mr. Tan Kin Lian
ReplyDeleteYes, I respect your view. However, I still don't have a stand on whether the multiple posting action is right or wrong. I do not wish to state a position when I clearly do not have one.
I believe many opposition parties candidates definitely have a genuine desire to serve the Singapore populations. I have no doubt about this.
However, other than having the right desire and good priniciples, the ability to think clearly & make good long-term decisions are also very, very important.
Take for example, many Singaporeans have complainted abt the Singapore govt. subsisisding the university education of Chinese Internationals at the expense of home-grown Singaporeans. In this case, I think the govt is correct to do that. Singapore is a small country. It's future is and will be highly dependent on the growth of China. It is important to establish good links through the provision of education to potential high calibre Chinese citizens. These links will serve Singapore in good stead in time to come.
Many Singaporeans and oppositions parties have failed to see this long-term benefit. However, to what extent should we subsidise their education. Again, I do not have an answer.
I have many more examples.
In conclusion, I agree that high integrity and a real desire to serve the interest of Singaporeans are impt. characteries of good Singaporea leaders. However, the ability to think clearly and be able to see beyond the smoke and short-term benefits are equally important. Many opposition party candidates lack the latter two qualities.
Again, I am just stating my view. Thank you.
The multiple postings are clearly an attempt to skew the statstistics and deceive. It is the work of one who has no integrity.
ReplyDelete"However, other than having the right desire and good priniciples, the ability to think clearly & make good long-term decisions are also very, very important." Yes, I feel that having the right desire and good principles must take precedence. Without integrity and a genuine desire to serve for the good of the country and nation, the one who has the ability to think clearly & make good long-term decisions for his OWN benefit will do greater harm to more people.
I do not agree that this government subsidise the university education of Chinese Internationals AT THE EXPENSE of home-grown Singaporeans. Citizens come first. It is fine to establish good links and relations with other countries through trade and charity projects but they cannot and should not create problems and hardship of its own citizens. In any case, I worry that some of these "potential high calibre Chinese citizens" break their bonds and have their free lunch at our expense since our government cannot and will not pursue the matter to avoid antagonising China.

I feel that many PAP candidates lack the former two qualities. I am always amaze by the ability of some PAP MPs who can hold a full time job and multiple directorships (the record being 14?) while "genuinely" serving the interests of their residents "to the best of their ability".

ReplyDeleteThe great irony is that many of the PAP MPs and ministers lack ALL OF THE ABOVE. You can clearly tell from the way many of them try to rationalise PAP policies in parliament or when providing quite illogical and totally out-of-point answers to opposition MPs.

ReplyDeleteYes, I fully agree. The optimal solution is to find a way to integrate ALL the qualities.

- No, I do not agree.
We need to look at this from a bigger prespective. There are many countries who have many graduates who are jobless or earn less than our blue-collar workers. Even neighbouring countries.
International students breaking bonds - i treat is a a risk that comes with the 'investment'. Govt MAY be able to put in more measures to minimize this.
Provision of education to high calibre international students is an ingenious and potentially much cheaper way to establish links.
The thought of Singapore will forever be a part of them.
Singapore leaders will also understand to a certain degree their system of thinking. We provided them with the education.
Trying to engage these ppl only when they rise to high positions will be expensive and ineffective.

Yes, I agree to a certain extent.
Again, ALL the mentioned qualities are essential.
I cannot imagine Singapore having second or third rate ministiers engaging other countries' leaders. That would be sucidal. Our leaders to be at least on par, or even much better, than them intellectually.
I cannot trust a general who is full-of-heart but is leading his troops to death or route of no return.
In the real world, doing your best is sometimes still not enough. It's like in the military, its either you suceed or do not suceed.
I respect your views.
I may differ in certain views from Mr. Tan Kin Lian. It may be because he has been through more in life to gain a deeper perepctive.
Again, I have to emphasise that I really respect and appreciate Mr. Tan Kin Lian's efforts, time and innovativeness in contributing to the society.
Thank you.

ReplyDeleteAnd I definitely do not trust a general who is cunning and deceptive to his own. We both know which general soldiers would risk their lives for and which they would dump at first opportunity much lest follow.
