I was given a UOB Bank Infinite Visa card in 2006. There was waiver of the annual fee for the initial years. In November 2009, UOB deducted $1,500 in annual fee on the card, without telling me. I did not notice the deduction in the bill and only found out one month later. I called their hotline. They volunteered to refund the $1,500 to me (before I ask about it). I wanted to cancel the card on the next renewal date, but they volunteered to renew it for another year with fee waiver.
This year, I gave written instruction that they are not to renew my card without my approval of the annual fee. UOB replied that they are not able to accede to my request. It is a condition of the credit card that it will be automatically renewed and the annual fee is $1,500. I gave instruction to cancel the card on its expiry at the end of October.
UOB Bank cancelled the card immediately, without telling me. I only knew about it when my payment of an airline ticket was rejected. This give me a bad impression of the service provided by UOB Bank.

REX comments as follows,
ReplyDeleteYes i agree. UOB gave me a lot of problems when i just wanted to transfer the UOB credit card payments using giro via bank A instead of bank B. I filled in the form with no further instructions, in the next month i got charged late payment plus on top of that penaly fee double whammy. IT should be a transparent process, on-hold cases while the banks are processing the transfer documents.
And they say it take 6 weeks to process a change of bank.
I wrote a long complain letter to the VP of Consumer Service. That was two months ago. Not a single reply. They just throw away your complaint letters.!!!!

Actually UOB privilege banking has pretty good service (I assume you are a privilege customer because of your visa infinite card).
ReplyDeleteThe only thing is that their prices are no good.
Anyway Standard Chartered seems to provide alot more perks and better services. Prices are good as well.
DBS treasures is terrible.
Cheers!
Yup, having a sour taste with UOB privilege banking services now. They insist on charging me $1800 for the privilege credit card which I thought is quite absurd. Decided to forgo the card then, no big deal. But left me a bad impression overal.
ReplyDeleteI needed the bank and branch code for someone to credit money to me. I asked my RM to advise me on that last night by SMS. She replied this morning 10am to say she will check and let me know. She is fr Toa Payoh Br. Don't she know her own Br code? I finally checked with call centre. It was faster than thru her. Why are we paying the interest for loan and lower interest for deposit for the bank to pay these bankers for not able to do works faster? It is a waste of charges paid by customers!
DeleteUOB immediately charge me for membership upon using the card to pay for a item after not using the card for a long time. I requested for waiver but they rejected and proceed to send me a statement to pay this sum but did not indicate what this amount is about. As I never charged to this card I called back to ask what is this amount I had charged only to realized it is the membership fee. If I don't know, I would have paid without realising it as it did not stated it is membership fee. I feel at that point they are so dishonest. Since they refused to waive I requested to terminate the card since I hardly use the card which the service provider agreed at once. They had the cheek to send me a letter to request I settle the outstanding membership fee?! It seems that they desperately need money to pay their useless bankers.
ReplyDeleteUOB has the worst customer service and are good conmens. One night i received a call by the name of a financial adviser called LIM KIM LAI from Bishan branch who told me my 2 of my fixed deposits was up and he asked if i was free the next day so he could discuss more plans with me. He then introduced me to a plan by the name of Pruwealth. So later we went to withdraw my two matured fixed deposits. When i went to the counter i was told only one was up and the other was not up. This guy was not being honest in his dealings however the interest for the not matured deposit was only $2.71 so i was not real fussy. This guy is really a crook and an idiot. 4 points which showed he was really an incapable guy.
ReplyDelete1) My FD has not even mature and you told me mature? This is cheating
2) He told me over 5 years there will be interest paid yearly the next day he said it will be paid at the end of 5 years. What is this about? It was only a day. He told me suddenly the policy had changed.
3) This guy really is a clown. He right from the start knew exactly how much of money i was going to invest in pruwealth. He promised me there will be a gift later he said only up to a certain amount only will the gift be applicable. C'mon you taking me for a fool. Smiling idiotically like a clown making fun of me in this way.
4) This one was very important the first day i told him to check for my withdrawal please check is it by signature or print that guy did not even bother to check. On monday he texted me sounding panic that he needed my signature and ask me to meet him later in the day. I told him this two weeks i would not be free plus i was ill despite that he had the cheek to text me everyday asking for signature. Finally ending of the month he told me i had to sign before the end of the month. i asked what if i do not sign. He said if i do not sign i he had to answer for the missing funds. He made it sound as if it was my fault and his tone sounded threatening.
I agreed to meet him in two weeks time to check and sign. I noticed what we had previously discussed did not tally so i sort of said i needed to go home and think. He became very angry and said "things did not tally because while explaining you don't write because you don't know i write". What kind of attitude i was really pissed. I told him i needed time to think and i was feeling ill he could even say why not you sign first? There is a 14 day period you can cancel. I declined.
Later i went to make a complaint as i felt his service was real bad his boss Maggie Siu from Bishan Branch had the cheek to even tell me the interest was only $2.71 not $271 why make a big deal. I told her i never said $271 she said i did i said i wanted to speak to her big boss. She rudely said her big boss would not entertain me and slammed down the phone.
I contacted the service centre and a guy by the name of Tan SiangSiong who was Maggie's boss contacted me about it. A lady by the name of Sin Yee also contacted me.
I was given a letter by their big boss MR kenny Low who told MR Scott Low of Bishan branch to send me a letter saying my case was dismissed and closed with an apology.
I regretted whatever i had with UOB too bad Singapore does not have more variety of local bank to choose from. UOB really gone too far.
