Concerns of the people

I read the views of Dr. Tony Tan on the role of the President. He now wants to understand the concerns of the people and to bring them to the attention of the government, using the appropriate channels, i.e.both formal and informal.

Dr. Tony Tan now shares my position (stated in my statements found in www.tkl2011.com) that the President must speak up on behalf of Singaporeans. With our views converging, voters now have to decide on who can act independently of the Government in looking after the interest of the people.

It seems that Dr Tony Tan also disagrees with the Law Minister that the President cannot speak without the approval of the cabinet.

  1. In GE 2011, the majority voters showed they preferred PAP to be government.

But this does not necessarily mean PAP is popular or they like or respect PAP most.

So there is a possibility that these majority voters may do the same thing for Presidential Election.

They may also choose someone as President even though he is not that popular and they also may not like or respect him.

More because due to PAP government prefer and respect him most, he will be more effective as President.

For the same reasons why majority voters think PAP is most effective as government!

So the Presidential hopefuls (not Tony Tan) need to think of how to overcome this majority mindset of voters.

Maybe should learn from Workers Party Aljunied GRC team in GE 2011. They won when others could not do for decades!

  2. What are the implications when the trade unions say they will support TT? Will their union members be forced to vote accordingly or face repercussions? What about the T clan?
