I have high respect for Dr. Toh Chin Chye, who passed away recently. I met him only once, for an interview. Later, I met him briefly on a few occasions. Dr. Toh is not only an architect for modern Singapore, but he is also a person who has a feel for the ordinary folks in Singapore - and is not a member of the elites. I am sad that he has just passed away, but he has lived a long and meaningful life. My condolences to his family.
Better and more humane to let all the old PAP guards to pass away quickly, they must be feeling a lot of pain to see their beloved Party to degenerate to this low position.
ReplyDeleteThey have had served this country well with passion, conviction and genuine loyalty.
God bless TCC's soul, and RIP.

ReplyDeleteAmong the respected old guards, only Ong Pang Boon left.
S Rajaratnam died too early. Dr Toh stepped down too soon. Both did not share in the spoils of victory that were to follow. Nor would they have wanted to. They were not here for the money, but to serve the nation. Both shall forever be in our hearts.
ReplyDeleteI remembered that Dr. Toh took a strong stand against the PAP government's very unpopular 'Graduate Mother' scheme which gave priority to the primary one registration of their children in 1984/1985. He argued convincingly that we should not use human intelligence to set education policy for admitting young children to school. In his view, the people contribute to the society in a different way. We must not create 'an elite club' to accommodate 'a special group'. The hawker, the taxi/bus driver and the cleaner play an equally important role as many others, e.g. the manager, the director and the minister etc..
ReplyDeleteHave a good rest, Dr Toh! You are an honorable man. Singaporeans remember you.
I have no idea how this founding father look like until he mati & media publish his photo.
ReplyDeleteThis shows the younger generation are indoctrinated that 1 guy is responsible for the progress of sg.
Wonder how he & other founding fathers feel now that a certain family is in control esp of the SWFs.

ReplyDelete"only Ong Pang Boon left". Get this into your head when the time comes.
Our main stream media is state influenced.
ReplyDeleteThere is hardly any news, pictures about events and people other than what you & I are suppose to know.
They too must be demolished and new ones allowed to flourish.
One way is to shut down all internet services.. this will magnify their position.. and much chaos will reign.
