It is quite common for Singaporeans to develop a convoluted approach when a common sense approach would be more appropriate. Here is an example, as seen from a foreigner.

Like the comment made on why have to get foreign train experts to teach our FT simple common sense. The ex SMRT CEO was a FT sourced by Temasek Holdings to front this GLC, meaning this FT dun have common sense, thought our Govt always wax lyrical on merit of employing FTs.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a local born CEO already have spurs stuck into their sides, and SMRT could dispense with the expensive engagement of experts to teach, as the Singaporean already has common sense traits in his genes.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, our education system teach the young people to have a convoluted approach. They are required to solve complicated Math problem to be top in school. So, at a young age, our top leaders, know that they have to use a convoluted approach to excel.
These young people became our top leaders in government and the civil service. This has happened for two generations already - i.e. the leaders who excelled in this convoluted environment teach their children that this is the way to succeed in life.
So, the habits developed over two generations will be difficult to change.
