Praise for Prof Lim, query for NTUC

... why the NTUC, a union that is supposed to represent Singapore workers,
did not take a more proactive approach to bargain for better wages
and help improve the plight of poor Singaporean workers
until Prof Lim stepped in.

  1. Terence Tan summed it up well. The Big Cost is the rental, be it for the stall holders or a small business entities.
Yes, the Govt can do a lot thru' HDB / JTC and its various GLC's. But it seems jacking up properties value is part of the Growth Model.
As to why Singaporeans are not reproducing /replacing themselves, part of the answers lie with the High HDB flats cost.
There was this article that suggests we help raise orphans /put them with childless couples instead of bringing in 30's something foreigners, who in 20 years time will add to the ageing headache with no assurance that these new citizens will raise a family
    ....

  2. The Govt is using the low fertility rate of citizens as a smoke
screen to get in adult immigrants, that would contribute to GDP growth with immediate effect, and which is linked to their pay rewards.
They can't wait for "foreign adopted
orphans" to grow up, Govt wan immediate result and gratification,
they dun wan waiting for 20 years long, by that time, many of them would be encased in urns already.
So when PM Lee encouraged citizens to procreate in this Dragon year,
we should take this as a pinch of salt, and not lose sight of the real motive behind.

  3. It is an organisation like "SMRT" ... missing the focus of "core values" or CSR and "core competencies"...more like a club and also growing to become a "real estate developer"...LOL.

Waiting for the "obvious" to happen ... like train breakdowns.
