Lyrics
Translation (Google Translate)
It's a song that we like
You loved me and you I loved you
We all lived, the two together
That you loved me me who loved you
But life separates those who love
Softly without a sound
And the sea erases on the sand the footsteps of separated lovers

ReplyDeleteDun know why this haunting, mushy song slipped into this blog.
ReplyDeleteCould make a guess,
To evoke nostalgia for senior citizens back to simpler but romantic eras of the 50s and 60s,
to sooth the air of so much animosity among disgruntled citizens who have difficulty adjusting to unsettling life in Singapore.
Yes, with the fast paced disappearing landscape of old Singapore, replaced by artificial, cold, modern structures, and grasping for breath, we do need nostalgia to sustain living on till death do us part.
People who have been to Xiamen would see the Hokkiens constitute a small minority of the city, awash in a sea of people from other parts of China. Singaporeans will be the next phenomena.

ReplyDeleteI like this song for the reason that you stated. Also, it is one of my favorite French songs. I listen to these songs to learn a few words of French, to impress my French friends, including girls!
