This is the queue at Singapore Airport when I returned from Paris.
Guess what were the passengers doing at the counter? They were writing the useless immigration card.
I do not have to write any immigration card when I entered Paris. The European authority decided that they only need to scan the passport and the immigration card is useless.
Our Singapore Immigration authority did not have to decide anything. They just wait for instructions to come down from the Minister. As the Minister is too busy with other pressing issues over the past decades, no decision was taken to remove the useless card.

Even Malaysia and Vietnam do not require visitor to fill the immigration card anymore.
ReplyDeleteYes even Vietnam has got rid of the white card. I have not been to malaysia lately and Malaysia has the on and off the white card a few times not sure about now.
ReplyDeleteOh! come on guys! you will make all the officers redundant and they will lose their jobs!
ReplyDeleteLet these people be. What will they do, where can they go if they are all retrenched?
Do you know how many people SATS employ? Do you know how many jobs are available at Changi Airport Group?
I see cleaners walking around chatting among themselves. There are "ambassadors" walking around to help "lost" passengers... and so many AETOS guards moving from one gate to another.
Let them be.
Since Minister decide they should be paid at a premium, then people expect them to be better in everyway. e.g. $60,000 a month compared to a ordinary worker of $1,500 a month. Why should these lowly paid workers help to think for Minister and then Minister get the credit? Minister are so free to do give speeches, hee-hee ha-ha with the press, provide helicopter view while the lowly paid worker continue to struggle with high cost of living and congested public transport. So it is only right to wait for the clever one and his back room of 300 scholars to decide whether or not things need to change....
ReplyDeleteGovernment must double confirm everything.
ReplyDeleteExample:
We are responsible for our own retirement.
But just to double confirm, the government holds onto our CPF money in the form of the Minimum Sum.
Just to make sure we really have money to retire.
Minister of State Tan Chuan-Jin:
"What is quite clear, is that while everyone needs to plan for his or her own retirement needs, the state needs to ensure that via the CPF, we can provide a basic level of adequacy for most, especially for our lower income Singaporeans."
http://momsingapore.blogspot.sg/2012/05/being-retirement-ready.html
It's very inefficient and amateurish to double confirm.
But 60% of Singaporeans support this.
60% of our friends and relatives are really this stupid.
Sounds like the Communist System in North Korea.
ReplyDeleteIn N.K., no instruction given by the Commune Head of Dept., no one dares to till the soil and begin cultivation of crops.
Singapore civil service is really antiquated and so Stalin style.
Every Dept just wait for instruction from above, no creativity, just work like robots.
Today, I return from Batam to Tanah Merah Jetty. 3 plain cloths officers stop me after X ray. They first confiscated my passport, then asked me a series of questions which I thought irrelevant. I had been overnight at Turi Beach with 4 other family members. I had helped my wife to carry her luggage. Are those officers wasted time and tax money with me?
ReplyDeleteLater, my wife spot two left luggages at the car park. I don't bother it after above mentioned case. Let it be there. Why busy outself?
