Still in a blur, Feng is playing for Singapore or China, or whether Singapore is playing for China. For all the propaganda, Feng is still a stranger to us, whose loyalty she stands for. So much for the integration process, a Govt's failure.
Michael, She is playing under the Singapore flag. We have to treat them as our compatriots, so that they will feel a belonging here. When I go overseas for business, the people there make me feel welcomed also.
I think it is a win-win arrangement. China pick the best in the country at that time and for those not selected but still have passion, they left to other countries. You do see ex-China players in Poland, Germany etc. No different from Singapore. If you cannot beat them, then join them. It does not take a highly paid politician to follow this way of recruitment. The 3 Singaporeans-born in China players do played very hard throughout their representation for Sgp. The pressure is intense. Always nice to have a local born player to bring back a medal, but due to the Govt education policy e.g. Ex University graduate cannot do Primary School Maths, no time for sports. Just like low birth rates, high cost of living, winning medals can only depend on coverting foreign citizens to Singaporeans. Just cannot see why Govt use other people ideas and still demand World's best salary....
Olympic after Olympic, it is always the same people succeeded or nearly succeed to get a medal. Now the bench mark has shifted to 2 bronze. With the current table tennis elite phasing out, Govt intention of grooming locals, the medals will disappeared for xx number of years, and then Govt will reverse the strategy back to the current and it just go round and round. My Question: Do we have to pay such high salary for so call high caliber person to copy other country ideas, reverting to previously used ideas year after year? Sign.... nothing change...

Feng plays for Spore for the money.
ReplyDeleteWe cannot get the best from China to play for us. What we get is what China don't want.
That easily explains the bronze.
Getting a bronze is like getting 3rd honours in Art.
Alamak mr.tan, I did not expect u to write this
ReplyDeleteKin lian,

Michael
