A Singaporean friend of mine,
who was then a director in a European multinational corporation located here,
told me a few years ago that he specifically directed his human resource department
not to hire any graduate from our local universities unless absolutely necessary.
His view was that local graduates lacked
the necessary mindset and attitude to do a job well.
In contrast,
graduates of foreign universities, Singaporean or otherwise,
tended to be more independent, streetwise, resilient and self-driven.
According to him, the only positive thing about local graduates
was that they were book-smart.

The core value of our educational system is to teach the people "to play smart and safe".
ReplyDeleteSimilarly, our political system does not develop along the four(4) pillars/principles of 'true democracy', namely the responsive government, the effective opposition, the free press and the participative people.
It's time that the people must response to put things in order. First, to take part in the protest in Hong Lim Park on "Population White Paper" on 16 Feb 2013.
Dear Mr Heng Swee Keat.
ReplyDeleteAs Education Minister, what is your response to Alex Yeo?
