I welcome the statement by the executive committee of the NUS Student Union on the Peeping Tom incident.
https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/nus-students-union-condemns-sexual-harassment-urges-students-not-harass-peeping-tom
The statement said ... "Justice needs to consider both the victim and the perpetrator, and needs to be proportionate”.
It is easy for outsiders to ask for the maximum penalty.
What would be appropriate? Death penalty?
I do not know if this is the first time that the perpetrator had done it, and if he was done out of mischief or to make a profit by selling the video.
We have to condemn sexual harassment and take appropriate measures, but we should not go overboard to ask for harsh and disproportionate penalties, without knowing the facts.
We should also respect the decision taken by the people in charge, who have to consider the facts.
We are already a society of scared people - scared even of our own shadows. We should not make matters worse.
As the statement said, "Justice needs to consider both the victim and the perpetrator". Well said.

Blessings. Correct Mr Tan.
ReplyDeleteThey may want everything in their power for vengeance, but things have a way of turning around. That is their future children turn out to have peeping tom fetish and see where the responsibilities lies.
ReplyDeleteLes will not have problem expressing their displeasure if peeping tam is female?
ReplyDeleteEven is she graduate with flying colors will any company hire her for fear that she has to be given special treatment or she will blow in social media for vengeance? I for one will not interview such person.
ReplyDeleteI think some of you commenters are sick. Here is a case where a guy FILMED a girl showering, and then blames it on alcohol, and got away with NO conviction. Yet, you all feel so "sorry" for his terrible predicament, instead of petitioning for justice and a strong deterrence against other would-be "cameramen". What? Do you wish Singapore to descend into a nation of lawless molesters and rapists? Regards, Rykel
ReplyDeleteAgree with Rykel's comments. If want to peeping tom shower should go to swimming pool. Lots of women showering before going into the pool only in 2 small covering pieces.
ReplyDeletePerpetrator must be punished. Think of the trauma she would have to go through if vibratXX or masterbaXXXn was involve.
ReplyDeleteThis brand of people has value for politics. They are prepared to deal for 'justice' no matter at what cost. People will benefit greatly from them.
