Through the years, my family members knew friends, acquaintances and relatives who somehow had friends, acquaintances and relatives living in San Francisco, London, New York. Sydney, Melbourne, Toronto, Vancouver from Singapore. Mostly they were from well-off families. They live in the high-end cosmopolitan area (in the same way as Orchard Road). They hardly felt any racial discrimination. Nonetheless, we also know of people of Asia origin who lived in the not so affluent district where the whites dominate. The citizens were racist towards the Asians and their pet phrase were Chinks go home. The youngs liked to pick fights with the Asians and were treated second class. My mum had asked a few of our elderly neighbors, where their children were. They replied that they were all over the world. They dislike here, some has three children and the crappy education system.
