Measuring the covid transmission rate

The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported:

As of 5 November 2021, 12pm, the Ministry of Health has detected a total of 1,767 new cases of COVID-19 infection, comprising 1,639 community cases, 120 dormitory resident cases and 8 imported cases. Amongst the community cases today are 284 seniors who are aged 60 years and above. The ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before is 0.81.

The fall in the number of cases today is likely due to fewer swabs being done over the Deepavali Public Holiday at Public Health Preparedness Clinics (PHPCs) and polyclinics.

I suggest a measure of the growth rate that can overcome the distortion caused by the number of tests carried out.

Merck - manufacturer of molnupiravir

 Merck (MRK) is the manufacturer of molnupiravir, a drug that is now being evaluated for treatment of covid-19. It can be used orally.

Improve communication with people placed on isolation

I sent this message to minister for health on 4 October 2021. He replied that his ministry is looking into the matter.

They are not interested to hear my suggestion, or to use my experience.

To bad investments - Sinopharm, Top Glove

 I have made two bad investments. They are Sinopharm (1099.HK) and Top Glove (BVA.SG).

I lost more than 10% of the invested sum over the past two weeks. I invested about $80,000 in each stock, so my loss is more than $8,000 SGD in each. Why did I invest in these stocks? What do I do now with these stocks?

National Security Law in Hong Kong

My friend, who has lived in Hong Kong for many years as a foreigner, did not like the national security law passed recently in Hong Kong.  

He visited my Facebook often and saw that I expressed views that are supportive of the China government.
