Survey: Rating of Government ministries (Singapore)

How do you rate the work of the various ministries in Singapore?

Here are the survey results.

  1. I would say, many do not even know how most of the ministries work. Without that knowledge, the survey may not reflect truly.

  2. The second question should read how do you rate the "Minister" in charge of the Ministries ...?

Not "Ministries" in charge of the Ministries ...

  3. Good. Looks like we will soon have a former Malaysian as our PM.

  4. I am very surprised that the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) occupies the third lowest spot in ranking (securing 32% approval rate) among the 15 Government Ministries polled in a survey being conducted by your blogsite. Given the enormity and complexity of the nature of work it handles, MOM indeed provides excellent front line services matching that of another favourite service provider of mine – the CPF.

I have had many encounters with the MOM front line staff and their supervisors and they generally handle issues with a service oriented approach to help out wherever they possibly can instead of zeroing on fault finding. Just about 2 months back I was at the airport to receive my housemaid and the Immigration refused to allow her in because the banker’s/Insurance guarantees were yet to be transmitted to their data base under the first cycle block transfer timing. I had the original copies of these guarantees in hand but they refused to accept that and insisted I must get an authorization document from MOM to get her cleared. They told the innocent young village girl that she would be sent back to her country by the next flight out and the poor girl was in tears and trauma. The immigration just threw the rule book and showed no flexibility, sensitivity and sensibility. I made a frantic rush to MOM and explained the problem to a lady supervisor. She was so understanding and accommodative and prepared the required paper within 20 minutes which helped me to fetch my maid out of the airport subsequently. Immigration comes under Home Affairs and I am not surprised at all that this Ministry sits right at the bottom with 24% approval rate in your poll. Kudos to MOM!
