I have followed you blog for some time and found many of your suggestions as well as comments from readers to be very good. May I suggest you pick the 10 best suggestions (eg. improve transport system, contain property prices, protect consumers from unfair practices, etc) and do a poll to let readers decide on the best 5. You can then pass the 5 best suggestions to the government for consideration, amd hopefully all your suggestions will be implemented.
Mr Tan i agree with most things you write but i'm English and i spent last year in the UK and was paying S$500 a 5 day week for a 2 hour journey into london by bus train and tube . The buses were full of drunks, i saw 3 fights, and only the unemployed seem to use them outside of London. The tube trains went on strike twice while i was there.
Singapore public transport is very low cost, very reliable, regular, safe, clean and integrated (cash card works throughout). I think Singapore public transport is probably the best value in the world although the cabs have got a bit expensive in peak hours.
I even like the train from Malaysia to Singapore - the best kept transport secret and cheaper than going from Changi to Jurong by Cab.
I like the train service in UK and Europe because of the good connection and timely schedules, in spite of the high cost (relative to public transport in Singapore).
I find the cost of train service to be acceptable compared to private cars, taxis or air travel.
Why are our ministers paid so much when they still need to be mentored and have to learn from other countries?
