My friend made this observation - the PAP MPs were good in the old days. They became different after the GRC system was adopted. Under the GRC system, they do not need to look after the voters, and only need to please one top man. The gulf between the PAP and the people widened over the years since.
That is a very good observation and a conclusion I can agreed with. Some yound political science student should pick this up for a thesis !
ReplyDeleteHistory repeatedly shown NO elected government can ever survive too long with an onslaught of People's Power if they do not put people's interest as their priority. GRC or without GRC system.
ReplyDeleteThe Govt is thinking of a way to make some changes to this GRC system, as the ground has changed this time round. It is not as easy, simple and sweet as before, as people are unhappy and angry at the current situation. They are breaking out in cold sweat, as the thought of losing one or two GRCs looming ahead is unnerving, as they lose big in the GRC system.
ReplyDeleteSM Goh's dialogue with the NTU students is very revealing, as he is hinting that he is not at fault when the majority lost the sense of belonging to the country, as the problems are not created by him, they are created by his bosses. It has nothing to do with him.
Very sad to note that Nowadays, more and more of our so-called tested Politicians talk and act like they are the salemen.
