The standard of engineering had dropped in the past two decades, as trained engineers found it more lucrative to be insurance agents, property agents and other jobs in the financial sector. This has resulted in a drop in the standard of maintenance in our MRT system. Read this letter

I suspect that the same factor could be responsible for our flooding problem in Orchard Road. I wonder when will our Government wake up to this long term harm that is being done to our economy and infrastructure.

'The standard of engineering had dropped...'
ReplyDeleteNot true in other industries.
SG has its best petroleum and petrochemical engineers, aviation engineers, offshore & marine engineers.
Oh the reasons for the erosion of skills are very glaring.
ReplyDeleteSMRT refused to pay our skilled engineers the pay that deserving of their qualifications, so they leave to pursue other interests that pay well. So SMRT took advantage of the foreigner floodgate, and employed mediocre standard engineers from third world countries, stinging on quality to save manpower costs, and also shortchanging on parts and maintenance frequencies to maximize profits for Temasek Holdings to see.
This is a GLC that is run by foreigners with Temasek behind the bamboo screen, former CEO Saw is just a greedy puppet.
The COI wayang is amusing to watch, with LTA, SMRT and former CEO Saw throwing brickbats at each other, with the expensive lawyers funded by us, the taxpayers.
Can't blame our very own engineers.
It's a survival game for them.
