WOTC - Restriction on food export from Malaysia
Will the restriction on food exports from Malaysia have an impact on Singapore?
64 % - It will cause our food prices to increase
18 % - It will be a temporary measure.
18 % - It will cause a long term change in our food supply.
0 % - It will affect the producers badly as their revenue will drop.
Singapore (and Hongkong) are not agrarian countries, else we could copy the Chinese, buy agricultural lands abroad to plant crops to feed the people back home, but what if exporting countries limit exports like what Malaysia is doing, or prevent these food producing land to be sold to foreigners. Maybe SGX listed Olam could offer help and advice to secure food sources for us.
ReplyDeleteNTUC Fairprice was set up during the early LKY era to prevent food retailers from controlling food prices, and it has done a good job, but now this Govt social enterprise is stifled due to Govt incompetent handling of Singapore Malaysia relations.
Maybe we should import more from Indonesia to reduce less carbon footprints with lower prices too.
