Expensive Broadband Connection

Broadband connection is expensive in Brussels. My hotel charges Euro 15 for 1 hour and Euro 25 for 1 day. Wow!

Its common for hotels to charge high internet rates because they are charging tourist monies like you and me.

Their residential rates should be lower.

sometimes hotels charge ridiculously high prices. in British Virgin Islands, one hotel tried to charge 8$USD per 15 minutes. there was no per day charge.

in town, you could probably get it for slightly cheaper, maybe $15 per hour or something, i can't remember

Wow! No wonder Europe is always playing catch up games with US in terms of internet usage and innovations. Sigh... the pricing of basic infra has huge implications on its adoption. If we look at mobile applications and usage, Japan leads the pack with Docomo. It is cheap and distributes 91% of its application revenue back to the application developers. In other places such as Singapore, most telcos take 50% of the revenue if you want to bill through them (eg. via sms). No incentive for mobile application developers to be creative, hence no applications developed, and a lack lustre mobile application market.
