The Indonesians are polite people. This is reflected in their language.
They call an adult male as Pak. I am Pak Tan. Pak is short for "bapak" or "father".
It shows respect to call another person, including a stranger, as "pak".
My
Indonesian made call my grandson Paul as "bang". It is short for "abang" or "elder brother". She called Paul "bang" even though Paul is the youngest in the family.
I visited Indonesia every month prior to covid. I find friendly and polite people all over the place, including those working for the government.
I am sure that there will be some nasty people, but they appear to be not common. At least, I have not encountered them.
