Skill Future Credit

Dear Mr. Tan

The government allocated $500 skill future credit to every citizen, where does this money go to went a citizen passed away?

I suggest the govt should give the option to much older senior (sick) for skill future credit, e.g credit to medisave instead.

Many seniors citizen will not use it as it too troublesome for them and some may due to illness.

REPLY
I agree with you. But the government has a different purpose. They want to encourage you to go for skill training. So, they don't want you to convert the money for other use.

Will I be harassed by civil servants?

Some people are worried that I might be harassed for expressing my views openly and actively in social media.

Will I be targeted by civil servants who can find all find of faults with me for failing to comply with the myriad of confusing government regulations?

So far, they have not. In fact, the civil servants that I encountered have been helpful.

Who knows, maybe some of them are sympathetic to my views. Like other ordinary people, they must have felt the high cost of living, worry about job security, high stress of life, inability to afford children. Perhaps they like to see the changes that I have proposed.

However, they will have to act on me when they are directed by the Grand Wizard or the Dark Wizard. So far, the Grand Wizard is preoccupied with other matters.

Anyway, I am prepared that my turn will come, one day.

Democracy in Thailand

The Parliament in Thailand comprise of 250 appointed senators and 500 MPs elected by the people.
Some people criticize this system for being "undemocratic". I hold a different view. I am in favor of this type of "not truly democratic" system.

I like to give my reasons.

Sue the board and founder of Hyflux

A group of retail investors want to sue the board and founder of Hyflux for misrepresentation. One of them approached me on the following:

a) Do they have a case?
b) Can I help to find a lawyer?

I replied that I am not an expert on this matter. However, I am willing to give my layman view, as someone who knows the law and business practice.

Their best chance is to look at misrepresentation and lack of proper disclosure in the 2016 prospectus for the issue of the perpetual securities.

The MAS and SGX is already looking into this matter from the regulatory perspective.

The investors can get a lawyer to have a watching brief and be ready to act, if the authority found the board to be in breach of their duties.

Can some other knowledgeable person give your view to this issue?

Parliament in Thailand

The Parliament in Thailand comprise of 250 appointed senators and 500 elected MPs

Some people expressed surprise that under the new constitution in Thailand, Parliament comprised of 250 people appointed by the military and 500 MPs elected by the people in the general election.

They felt that this is not democratic and that the military will continue to run the government. It will be extremely difficult for a popularly elected government to be able to have sufficient members to overcome the appointed senators.

I believe that this system has its advantages. Here are my reasons:

Vote against PAP and see a change in government

My friend asked me to express this opinion.

Many people are quite fed up of the PAP and they want to change the government. When they look at the quality of the candidates standing under the other parties, they do not feel comfortable about voting for the non PAP.

He also made this point. Even if the PAP were to lose more than half of the seats in Parliament, they will still form the government, because they will be the largest party. They will get other parties to form a coalition.

I gave him this reply.
