Accidents involving Malaysian registered car

The Straits Times Forum published a letter from Eunice Puay about an accident involving her and a Malaysian registered car on a road in Singapore. She was advised to make a claim under her own insurance policy and it was difficult for her insurer to make a successful claim against the Malaysian insurer or the driver. She suggested that the Singapore authority should make it compulsory for all Malaysian cars to buy daily insurance to cover the use of the car in Singapore. Do you agree with this idea?

Very sad, even driving on local soil, we also lose out to a foreign registered car.
Guess, have to wait for the car of a high profile PAP Minister to be involved in an accident with one from Malaysia, then the Authorities would take up Eunice's suggestion.
Until then, die die is your business, dun come and kacheow us, we're too busy.

Eunice Puay suggested that Malaysian registered cars be required to buy insurance on a daily basis. I agree with the proposal. The daily insurance fee, which I estimate to be $3 per day, can be added to the levy that the government is imposing on these cars to use the Singapore roads. The LTA can collect the premium and pass it to an insurance company to manage the risk.

If there is any third party claim against the Malaysian car, it can be paid by the appointed insurer. The own damage claim of the Malaysian car can be handled by his own insurance company in Malaysia.

Malaysian car is insured to drive in Singapore. I believe the difficulty to claim is due to insurance companies' "tricks".

In my last and only insurance claim, I made many calls and waited for 8 months but nothing happened. I went to the insurance company and kick open their door and the cheque showed up the next day.

I strongly believe there are a lot of corrupt practices and corruptions in insurance companies.
