Visit to Dubai

I visited Dubai. It was my first visit.

I was amazed at the development of Dubai. It is like Singapore, but using 21st century technology.

They are building many new cities, such as media city, internet city, knowledge village, etc. They get the international companies to be based there. The Dubai Marina is a grand residential city, and is nearly completed.

They are also building several large residential projects, such as Palm Jumeria, The World. These are built on reclaimed land in the Gulf. The scale of these projects is tremendous. Each has over 5,000 new residential houses and apartments.

My friend who live in Dubai said that the transport system is not adequately planned. I think that the Dubai planners will also find a 21st century solution to this issue. They have the vision and will to do it.

It is an exciting international city.

do you think Singapore has anything to learn from Dubai, in terms of urban planning, tourism etc? From what i have heard, Dubai, though situated in the infamous mideast, never fails to attract the real money spenders of the world. Royalties, celebrities, heads of states and the rich in general, pop by Dubai to be spoiled.

I've lived overseas so much sometimes i feel like a tourist to my own home in singapore. Yet, i find singapore almost boring in tourism. Perhaps it is time we take a bolder step in bringing in inventive ideas to capitalize on our very unique culture and society? It would probably be almost silly to suggest the idea of selling property in the manner Dubai has created in The Palm or The World, but while westerners are always looking for something exotic, i feel like they have tapped into many areas of the world except asia. I feel like Singapore does have the potential to reach out and while we have been doing so for a while, there's still so much more room for improvement. Singapore's growth as a city has really plateaued.

Im sure in so many other ways you saw how Dubai has grown as a new city. It would certainly be interesting to hear more about your thoughts in detail
