Mr Tan, why you say our Gahmen's job credit scheme is not having good impact?

Didn't the Sunday Times (7 June 09) reported that the ordinary folks don't really feel there is a recession as they are in a mood to spend? One expert even commented that it was due to the Job credit Scheme!

So who is right?

I read reports of continuing retrenchment. I did not read reports of new jobs being created, even with the wage subsidy under the Jobs Credit scheme.

The spending is due to large discounts being given by the stores. This is a short term measure, just for cash flow, and is not likely to turn the economy round. Not yet.

I read somewhere that the Americans were at one time, well before us, considering something along the lines of our Jobs credit scheme, but they drop the idea because it was not a good idea.

Of course, any upturn of the downturn will eventually be attributed to the JCS. Who can argue with them?
