Singapore Talking - COE, 10.30 pm Sunday 18 April

I have been invited to be in the panel on Singapore Talking this Sunday at 10.30 pm on Mediacorp TV. The topic is on the high price of COE. I will be giving my views about moderating the fluctuation in price of COE and more importantly, about making public transport and taxis more comfortable and affordable.

Dear Mr Tan,

I may not be answering to the COE topic, but this needs to be addressed as part of the whole picture.

I was driving home along CTE around 12 midnight. Guess what I saw?

Another ERP gantry being erected between two already fairly closely located gantries!! Location is slightly after exit 8B northwards.

This is one cost that needs to be reined in, it is creeping up slowly but surely.

After I sold my car I am happy that I am no longer bothered by ERP COE etc..... There is peace of mind.

I'm a simple layman.

I'm not a scholar and never graduated from any high-faluting university.

We are talking about controlling the car population in a small island of 710 sq km

And to do this, we have the most complicated car ownership system in the world.

We are not talking about;
a. finding a cure for cancer
b. turning Singapore into yet another hub for something
c. beating USA in a space race
d. hunting down a fast limping terrorist

As a tax payer, all I want to know is how many high priced talents it took to develop and manage this complicated mess.

Is it really this difficult?

The ERP gantry was being relocated. Afterwhich, the old one will be removed.

This way, there will be no ERP income loss during the relocation.

The old gantry can still be used in another place.............which means, LTA must have a collection of gantries just waiting to be erected!

I think LTA is just relocating ERP gantries for road widening works.

Seems like election is really coming. Why else would MediaCorp TV start inviting you to discuss in controversial topics like this?

Mr. Tan, please support the government's policies while you are on air.

If the goverment don't win big in this coming election it will be a lose-lose situation for everything as asset prices will come down and pay will decrease.

In Singapore, we have to make sure that prices of things and general cost of living remains high so that we can all work harder to get the same things.
