An audio of minister Chan's speech to the SCCCI was leaked out. The public was shocked to hear the recording.
The minister was highly criticized in social media over two issues:
a) His use of Singlish, which is unbecoming of a highly paid minister
b) His description of the behavior of some people (e.g. those who rush to stockpile food and masks) as idiots, stupid and selfish.

Most were fighting to keep their eyes open during the budget speech, and he was one of them. Not that we watch all of, it as was something one needs a very concise memory to adsorb. It was another few man's views that were put out.
No one rob or steal in panic buying. Thankful.
Is it illegal to hoard the necessary food or items? We have always a box of the mask in the home, just like burn cream due to the haze. Those who do not stock up mask must not blame everyone except themselves!
He is actively encouraging that he knew his roots by speaking Singlish, though he has now become a minister. Nothing wrong with being down-to-earth.
