There is this minority group in SG. Most have a lot of children and their circumstances are mostly very dire. They hardly complain and are mostly closely knit. They hardly blame others for their predicament. They find ways to work hard to help their family and live within their means. It could be their humble religion as they hardly go for branded goods and they save money on alcohol. Of course, there are always exceptions.

In terms of literacy for the elderly, the digital landscape has even made them lonelier.

Most widows/widowers are much lonelier if they have sons.

When sons marry they belong to the wives.

When daughters marry they gain a son-in-law.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could see into the future and learn our lessons without experiencing the struggle? Yes off course but we can't. Experience is the best teacher. As Mark Twain wryly pointed out: 'A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn no other way."

Talk to sucessful people and they will tell you that they learn more from their failures and mistakes than they did from their triumphs.
