Oppositon parties should have 25 seats in Parliament

To be fair, we replace the 'first past the post' system with the 'proportional representation' system. This is what the GE results will look like this:


WP          Votes won 12.82 %            Seats won: 10.5
NSP                          12.04                                     9.8
SDP                           4.83                                      3.9


OPPOSITION SEATS WON - 25

Hi,

In my opinion, the first past the post system was inherited from the British, and it was meant to achieve some stability in the political system. To a large extent, I think that the FPTP is suitable for a country like Singapore.

Nonetheless, I do not agree with the GRC system. While I understand the need for minority representation, these large groupings seem to make the GRCs MPs disconnect from the ground. Based on my observation, MPs in SMCs tend to work the ground a bit harder and that is a good thing.
Also, the deserving candidates are lumped together with the not so deserving ones. Aljunied is a good example. While there were refrains of not voting out George Yeo, have people thought about the other 4 in the said GRCs that have been pedestrian to the proceedings.
To conclude, keep the first past the post system, but reduce the size of a GRC going forward.

I suggest a mixture:

30 of 80 seats will be allocated based on proportion of votes gained by each parties. The rest of 50 seats will be SMCs. Voters will make two choices when casting their votes. First is to the party and second to the individual representing the SMC.
