Introductory speech by Tan Kin Lian at Media Conference

This is the introductory speech made by me at the Media Conference on 7 July 2011.

After the speech, there was an active question and answer session (videos will be posted separately). Later, I  went to the Election Department to lodge the application for the Certificate of Eligibility. I am commited to stand for the Presidential Election, if I get the certificate of eligibility.

TKL's Presidential Campaign impresses me because he keeps focussing on what a President can and should do.

With other Presidential candidates as well as a certain political party, all I hear is what a President cannot or should not do.

I knew leadership standards in Singapore have been slipping. But never would I have believed that we can sink to the level we have at present.

GE 2011 and now the Presidential elections have been a real eye opener for me.

Dear Mr Tan,

My parents had benefited alot from the policies bought from NTUC Income when it was under you (especially as compared to other insurance companies then) which had helped them financially in raising their family and me as one of their children. It is very clear, for us as customers and beneficiaries of then NTUC Income policies, whose interests you were protecting in your time there as CEO.

We're very glad to know you're running for presidency and hope that you will get the certificate of eligibility. We trust that you're equally clear on whose interests you will act to protect under whatever constrains that face the presidency office for the interest of our nation.

My parents and my vote will go to you. In addition, I'll be talking to my parent-in-laws and husband about you.
