My friend said - Kin Lian, do you know why employers prefer to employ foreigners and not locals?

His answer is not good for local workers.

I live in a condo in the Eastern part. Last year a maid from an ex-pat tenant asked if they could book the barbecue pit for her on one weekend for her birthday which was also was her off-day. Being new to the country and the first time having a maid, they were not aware of the rules. There were lots of booze, her friends with their Indian boyfriends, lots of hugging and kissing, and the noise and laughter pierced through the whole condo. Owners and tenants were full of anger as the playground with children was next to the party. The guards came to stop the partying and sent a very strong reminder to the owner and their tenant. Two weeks later the tenant moved out. ( guess the management did not realise the party booking was for the maid.) Treat them like family and that was what you get!

If Trump were to be Prime Minister here, he would not last a week. In a superficial country like ours when even if that person is really ugly, you have to say that they are pretty/handsome. If you say it as it is, the mob will come after you. We are ruled by the plastic surgery m😂bs.

Preference between hiring locals and foreigners- If a sales rep A's salary 50k a month, but brings in a revenue of 2 million. Sales rep B's salary is only 8k a month but only brings in a revenue of 100k. Who would you hire?

Heheh, I've worked in civil service, mnc & sme. Majority of sme bosses are like fishmongers --- which fishmonger will say their fish is average or bad?

The pure simple reason why many sme's can't hire citizens & why most citizens don't want to work in sme boils down to one fact --- lousy wages. Either the salary is much lower than bigger companies for the same workload & jobscope. Or if the salary is comparable, then the workload in the sme is much higher.

Even foreigners with degrees cannot stand working in sme's for long. Turnover is high & they are constantly checking messages or calling fellow countrymen whether got better lobang in other companies. They work in sme becoz they got no choice --- it's either that or be unemployed or work on a farm back in their country.

Quite a number of sme bosses also have a nasty habit of deducting 10%-20% of foreigner salary for "safekeeping". This "forced savings" will be returned to the foreigners when they complete their work pass contract with the sme e.g. 2 years. Otherwise it will be forfeited.

Foreign workers may have stolen your job, but they certainly haven't stolen mine.

I hope govt open floodgates to let in another 2 million FTs into Singapore.

We need them to stick spurs into the ass of Singaporeans.

And to attract more MNCs & startups in this country.

Also to increase GDP as well as create property boom.

Good chance of this happening once a vaccine is available & people are able to start flying all over the world again.

Why I say good chance of re-opening FT floodgates? Because Singapore needs to rebuild its Reserves after using up $52,000,000,000 from it.

Existing stock of Singaporeans just cannot make it.

Low pay equates to lower costs but is not sustainable for quality, performance, or moral. Receptionists, front line service people, and call centre staffs represent the business to the customer?

Multinational has to window-dress to pacify the local constituencies. Operationally the multinational companies succeed by working globally, not locally.
