Expensive Taxi Ride

I took a taxi from UIC building (Shenton Way) to Carlton Hotel (Bras Basah Road). The journey took 30 minutes (due to heavy traffic) and cost $7. It is quite expensive. The distance is actually quite short.

We need to provide better and cheaper form of public transport, including taxis.

Mr. Tan,

with rising cost of living, how can you expect taxi rides to be cheap.

Poor taxi driver still need to survive. infact, they should consider increasing their fares.

take a lesson off from SIA pilots.

I hope that the CEOs of taxi companies do not take heed of your opinion. If so, the poor taxi drivers may end up to be likened to the numerous NTUC agents who quit.

Taxi fares have been rising too rapidly. The taxi companies need to reduce the rental to the taxi drivers. This will allow the taxi rates to be correspondingly reduced.

The problems now is that in order to satisfy the shareholders, the taxi companies are raising their rental of taxis to the drivers. They then raise the fares and pass the cost to the customer.

It is now too costly to take a taxi and costly to own a car. It is better to take take a bus or MRT.

Today's report in the Straits Times states that taking a taxi will soon be considered luxury.

I hope that those who decide must realise that if taxis are to become "luxury" public transport, then buses and train services must be more efficient and frequent.
