Medishield should cover congential illness

Here is an article written by Gerald Giam.

I agree with his views. We need a mindset change in our Ministry of Health and the Government. Instead of the current commercial approach, they should think of a national, social approach - which is the role of the Government.

The People are being told that the national insurance programs like MediShield, ElderShield and soon-to-be-mandated CPF Life, that payouts need to be managed (often at unreasonable levels) in order to maintain the low premiums. Yet in the same vein (without much fanfare), the PROFITS are so outrageously generous.

Let's not forget the bill which was passed recently to provide for legal adjustment (to be read as cutting) of the CPF Life annuity payouts if the fund should ever become insolvent.

I think the actual statistics speaks for themselves. It appears that the CPF is being thoroughly milked.

I think the marginalised are those with illnesses. Firstly they must contribute to Medisave, Medishield, etc. because they are scared of financial castratrophe of illnesses. When one is ill, money is needed for medical expenses and being unable to work. This impacts upon their income and stress impacts upon personal health. With little financial resources, death beckons.
