Insured perils and acts of God

What are the perils insured under an insurance policy? What are acts of God and are these events excluded under all insurance policies?

The recent floods in Singapore seem to suggest that the losses are not covered, as they are caused by acts of God.

Read an explanation in the FAQ stored in my website. Search for "insured perils" or "acts of God".

Hi Mr Tan

It might be clearer to change your reference of "FAQ" to "Ask Mr. Tan".

These scenarios perhaps need your further clarifications. You may want to add to your FAQ.

(i) If a motorist was driving along the road and a tree collapsed on the moving vehicle, killing or injuring him; was it due to accident or "Acts of God"?. I would think it is an accident.

(ii) If a car was parked in a carpark, and a tree collapsed and damaged it; is this due to "Acts of God"? I would think it might be "Acts of God".

(iii) And lastly with a complication, if a motorist was driving along the road and a tree collapsed on the moving vehicle, no injury involved but damaged the vehicle, is it due to "Acts of God" ? This is complex.

Flood should be insurable risk as in other nature causes like typhoon or earthquake, by classifying an act of nature as an act of god is irresponsible act.
