The future for Singapore is bleak. The PAP is not able to rally the people to meet the challenges of the future. The other parties cannot do much either.

Listen more to the grumbles on the ground than the opinion of your men...the latter will follow the former. It is not possible to take positions with two sides, but you have "upward feedback" than allow your kayu men the power to fulfill their own needs.
Agree the future is bleak.
It doesn't matter what others wanted you to be leave as PM. In almost everyone's hearts, they know you are a "necessary evil."
