Overcharged by travel agent

I asked my friend's secretary in Jakarta to arrange return train tickets from Jakarta to Bandung.

As she was not familiar with purchase of train tickets, she approached a travel agent in Jakarta.

The travel agent overcharged me by loading 150% to the actual cost of the tickets, i.e. they charged IDR 1 million (S$85) when the actual tickets cost IDR 400,000 (S$37). Furthermore, they did not give me the full train schedule and only offered an inconvenient time for both trips.

I learned later that I could have searched online for the tickets, get the actual price and select the most appropriate departure time. If I needed to reserve the tickets in advance, it could also be done.

I do not blame the secretary because she was not familiar with the purchase of train tickets. I guess that this is how travel agencies make a quick buck from unsuspecting travelers.

A business organization needs unethical methods because of survival. No profits, staffs got no salary.

What people find intense disgust, was huge organizations like DBS, Singtel (Video calls talking service at their premises, as their customer service is based on cheap countries like Malaysia and the Philippines), and SIA- cutting costs and cutting corners where values and service drop like flies. Reputation no longer matters as long as they can show obscene profits to justify their heinous CEO pay and increase. As sad as it is, that is what it is about today. A lot of the young hate this country now. It's all about quantity, not quality.

Once upon a time, the old government was cracking their brains on nation-building.

The nation has been built but with social media, it is harder for the ministers, heads of organizations and leaders to put their foot wrong. All these came with pressure without being free of inner peace. Not everyone's makeup is resilience. Ridout looks like a form of escape from the hustle bustle and a getaway from meltdowns. The equilibrium here was that most ordinary folks are struggling with mortgages and getting a basic flat. Most had never seen or talked about that kind of $$$$money figures being thrown around.

Today with a salary of S$2 million yearly, one can only buy two 5room HDB resale flats? If they have so much money and not spending it, what is the meaning of money? Can't take it with you when you go. You work hard, you deserve to live hard. The question is do they work hard or enjoy their job as a hobby now that their bank account looks handsome?

My parent's HDB room tenant told my mother that when you choose Mala food they weigh in front

of you. when cooking behind the kitchen they take out some food, especially the meat. Seafood

restaurant also like that. They weigh the fish and tell you the price. Behind the kitchen

they change the fish to smaller size telling you the fish shrank during cooking.

Normal lives for some billionaires

1) Ikea founder Kamprad- Still drives a very old Volvo and flew economy.

2) One of India's richest men Azim worth $20BN- Still takes rickshaws to and from the airport.

3) Warren Buffet worth $70BN- Gives vast amount to charity. Still lives in a home he bought ages ago for just over $30,000.

Some people want to splurge on their living. Not our money. Who are we to judge?
