Slow response to an accident

Read this letter. The ambulance took 30 minutes and the police took 45 minutes to arrive at the scene of the accident.

My view
There is a shortage of manpower in the Police and the emergency services. Too many people want to join the banking and financial sector (for the high pay) and too few wants to do the ground work. The traffic congestion in Singapore adds to this situation.

Singapore is now heading in the wrong direction and things will get worse, unless the top people wake up and listen to the people on the ground.

Rex comments as follows,

The top people will solve this problem very easily.
Import another 5000 foreigners to serve as local policeman, civil defence workers and firemen.
What you expect them to do, they will say singporeans don't want to do this job, so send in the FT's. One size fits all solution. ha ha ha ha.

I once witnessed a mugging act and the few of us alight the bus to comfort the victim and watch for police to come. The police took ~45mins to arrive at the scene to take down statements etc etc. One of us who stayed behind even make repeated calls to the hotline to inquiry about when the police car is coming. When some of us gets impatient, one of us said, "If you want a fast police reaction, say there is a fight breaking out at the venue of the accident. Police will some to the venue fast."

I don't have the chance to test it out, so take it with a pinch of salt.

As for ambulance, if it's an emergency, as in serious injury, you can say this over the phone, "Help! Help! My friend is not breathing."

Again, it's not proven. So take it with a pinch of salt as well.
