Sieze the opportunity

Some people said that I "siezed the opportunity" to represent the misled investors. This statement has a negative connotation. It does not fairly reflect my intent.

I hope that the Government can help to find a fair collective solution for all investors who have been misled into these investments, regardless of their age or education level (provided that the independent investigation shows that they were misled).

I do not enjoy being the target of personal attacks and cynicism, and to take the burden of attending to so many aggrieved persons asking for assistance. I wish to have a more tranquil life.

Dear Mr. Tan,

When the downfall of Lehman news will affect my investment, according to my RM, I am really lost and donot want what to do. You are the person (I donot mention hero because I donot want you do die young) who has brough light to me when I am in the dark, brough me charcoal when I am in the cold. I believe many pple share my feeling. However, there are always two side in any circumstance, the chen (upright) and the shea (evil). When you are fighting for righteousness like what you are doing now, there is sure to be many evil forces working against you. Fear not, because God is always behind those who are righteous.
Thank you for your tireless efford to help the drown investors.

Only in Sinkapore do you get people branding you an opportunist when you do something for free or for altruistic reasons.

In real first world countries, it is normal to see people taking up the cause of others for reasons other than money, fame or other shallow motives. This goes to show that we are still not far from the swampy trading nation we once were.In terms of societal grace, we are still very much a banana republic.

Recently, some national awards were given in recognition of public service. I like to see you receiving an award next year.

Mr Tan,

Plse do not get discouraged by these shameless people. They have ulterior motive to attack you. We are all behind to support you. You kindness in helping us are greatly appreciated by all of us.

Mr Tan, you are making the people who are trying to hide the truth from people more and more nervous - it only showed that you are doing the right thing. As your "tree of justice" grows, it is inevitable that it attracts stronger wind.

If they round up with ISA?

or Block this IP-Blog eventually?

Mr. Tan, do not be discouraged. It is times like these that the occasional "Robin Hood" should stand up and lead his team of merry men to justice. You are a natural hero in circumstances like these as the general people are not knowledgable enough to know what is even going on. I salute you for your efforts and may you have happiness and good health always.

Dear Mr. Tan,

I would like say a big for your sacrifice in helping us(misled investors) that have been abandoned by our government in this crisis time.
Let us press on with the course.
I strongly urge all misled investors and general public to participate in next Saturday's rally (29/Nov) at Hong Lim park speaker corner.
All Singaporeans should know what sort of crisis we are facing as it could only get worse.

Dear Mr Tan,

Thanks for your selfless time and effort.

Are the purchases of credit-link products only available using cash? Are they allowed to be bought from CPFIS account? If not, why?

Hi Mr Tan,

Hope you can draw strength from the faith of those who have suffered and believe in you.

Ignore the personal attacks.

What you're doing is for the greater good of everyone.

Soldier on!

Dear Mr. Tan,
I fully understand how you feel. When I was conducting a course for those who have been retrenched from SIA years ago, I felt very tired as batches after batches came, felt better and went off. The negative vibes from frustrated and angry people can and do get rubbed off onto those who help.
Even more so in your case as you have to tolerate nonsense from those who mock at your efforts.
These made me admire you even more for your selfless and noble efforts.
Stay strong. These investors need you. Treat the others as noise and comic relief.

Thanks

I am not an investor of those troubled products myself but have been following your blog closely as it has given me a much better understanding of the whole issue. What you have done is truly commendable and admirable. Your knowledge and selfless effort are highly respected by everyone whom I know and knows what you have been doing. You are a sharp contrast to those million $ officials who have done basically nothing but lip service and constantly reminds us that their outrages compensation was for our sake as it was the only way to avoid themselves becoming corrupted.

I wish you all the very best.

I salute you for taking up this thankless task! When I first e-mail you on the implications of the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers on the structured products sold here, you were very frank in saying that you were ignorant of the products. However, on hearing so many horrendous stories of the many investors who bought such products you rightly step forward to fight for just compensations for them. The many hours you spent organising, stategizing, logistising the speeches at Speakers' Corner, etc. deserve my heart-felt praise & thanks. I know that God will uphold you in His Righteous Hand!!!

you should post their point and let us Bruised investors 'hentam ' him. Dare him to come in...!

MrTan , you can just stand aside and watch us argue with him.

He doesn't know how RM cheats old people during the sales process. I sat in premium room and watched, listened the whole process between 2004..2006. But I tell you all friends, I smell fishy and told my dad to drew out 1 million then. Lucky shiiit...

Tell the dogs not to bark wrongly, cos HISTORY will tell, eventually.

Want a peaceful life? MAS said “thoroughly into every possible breach of regulation, poor internal regulation or sales practices. And it will take action where necessary.”

Suspend everything until MAS reports whether there was Misselling etc. Then restart fight for justice.

Or just declare victory and walk away.

Dear Mr Tan,

I wrote earlier that I am very upset that people try to belittled you. I can only said that they choose to be blinded and there is little you can do about it. Me and my family ( all 5 adults ) are very proud of you. We will remember your deeds for a long long time.

Dear Mr.Tan,

Even I am not a investor I also understand what you are doing.

I am a observor. I will observor closely how the bank will solve this problem? Also, I will observor how the MAS and our Govt. will help the investors?

Also, to observor will the Town council be punished?

Hi Mr Tan, please continue your good work and ignore the negative comments against you, there are plenty of people like me supporting you!

We should focus on the issue and not the personalities involved. Mr Tan has a "just do it type" of temperament and a directive approach.

Can't be helped... he is CEO calibre. Those with thinner skins need not apply =)

Hi Mr Tan

I am sorry you have to face so many problems with all these attacks. I am sure there are many out there eg bankers, officials who may not like your helping us.

There are so many of us investors who are so grateful to you for your help. Without your help things would not have moved so far and I don't know what many have happened.

Thank you

Dear Mr Tan

I have bought from NTUC Income a Living policy while you were its CEO for close to 20 years now. Recently I seem to have heard that you commented that such policy is no longer value for money due to its change of dividend payout.

I have also bought 2 Living policies from another Ins Co for my 2 teenage children for just as long.

I have checked and found that I would make a surplus of $2,000/= on my Income policy but will suffer losses of over ten thousands for my teenage children's policies should I cancel all the 3.

Can you advise whether I should go ahead despite the losses and what sort of insurance cover best suit us?

Thank you.

Mr. Tan,

If your conscience is clear, there is no worry and you do not need to care what others think.

However, is your conscience really clear? Did you not make the "mistake" of allowing commission-paying agents in NTUC Income to sell lousy products?

I hope you will not levearge your "fame" and this opportunity to be use to attract customers to buy whatever products you will be creating for them - whether low cost term or funds.

Hi Mr Tan,

Singapore needs more good men like you to come forward and help the needy in these times of economics uncertainty.

Don't let a few detractors put down the good work you have done. :)

Dear Mr Tan, stay strong. Do not be swayed by a few like Chua Sheng Yang. Time will vindicate your kind and selfless action. Time will also further expose the FIs and embarass our Financial Authorities if more skeletons will fall out from the cupboard. The late public disclosure of the Town Councils loss of public funds is a good example. I am very sure they invested the PUBLIC FUNDS with their professional "eyes opened" only to find out that it is such a high risk fund. Will they have invested in it like all the aggrieved investors if knowingly been told of the underlying hidden high risks involved. It need more selfless people like you, Mr Tan to keep this issue alive and to see justice is meted out for the aggrieved investors.

6.32PM Lee,
before you cancel check your health status. Cut losses for your kids. They are dumb plans.
Whole life insurance is NOT a good saving plan nor a good protection plan. They short change you in both areas.Secondly, you don't need one for whole life.
Insurance agents tell you that term insurance will lapse easily. What do you think? Term premuim is so much lower and also lets you get bigger , enough to meet your NEEDs but not WL.As long as you know you need peace of mind and the premium so much lower people make sure they don't lapse.
Even you lapse for financial reason you can always buy another one with not much higher premium and it may be the time to lower your coverage, eg your kids grown up.
Invest the difference in a regular saving plan. But be careful there are many false saving plans out there. To play safe go for NTUC ID7 ideal plan. Get it from the business centre.
For your kids buy H&S plans. Medishield or private plan is enough.
First thing first make sure YOU are adequately covered and then your spouse and then followed by your kids. Don't put the cart in front of the horse.
I know insurance agents will tell you to insure the kids with dread disease plan. You can only after you have satisfied all your needs.
You may consider education funding too.
You see all these should have been planned by your agent long time ago.Even it may be late you still need to plan on.Remember , don't use an insurance agent or agent by another name like financial consultant. It is still a wolf in another clothing.

A well wisher

Dear Mr. Tan

I think if you believe in what you set out to do, this should not even be a issue at all.

As a Buddhism and with my life experience, I come to term that there is always people who support and disagree with you.

If quiet life you are seeking, I would say the current route you are heading will not be in that direction if not many time worst than this.

However, I would say that to date your action is admirable which truthfully demonstrated the traditional core virtue of Chinese value 礼仪廉耻,忠孝仁爱. God speed

Dear Mr Tan - your blog has become a wealth of advice and information - please make sure you have a way to back up the postings especially if you intend to publish a book later - I am just afraid maybe someone will hack into your blog or have it destroyed? I do not know if this will be possible?

Mr Tan.I agree with you. This mess was not created by you. The FIs had a chance to respond and be pro-active. MAS had a chance to respond and be pro-active. They chose not to do anything worthwhile. Instead now its is said that you are "stirring" (a favourite word of the powers that be) things up. Really? Why not let the FIs and MAS settle this once and for all. Then you can go back to your tranquil life. Somehow I do not think they would.

Mr.Tan, Keep up the Good Work. Please do not get discouraged by these people. We are all behind to support you. You kindness in helping us are greatly appreciated by a lot of people.

Yes Mr.Tan, perhaps save all your posting in Microsoft word whereby you can retrieve your postings. They are useful informations and your analysis of products came true. If those town councils had read your blog, they won't be in this deep shit now.

Dear Mr Tan, I have lost the bulk of my saving and was lost until you came along. Although, there isn't much progress and I am still in the hopeless stage, at least your blog and action give me something to hold on to. Most probably, we will get back nothing, but what you have done at least serve some metal support to many others like me. I sincerely thank you for what you have done. As the saying goes, you can't please everybody, but at least please yourslef for the doing that you think its right. And I guess many agree with you. For those posting sarcastic remarks, I do not blame them as they are not in our shoes, may be one day, they will learn to be more emphathatic with people when they themselves have to go through some rough stages in life.

Dear Mr. Tan,
Thank you for all your hard work and kindness. But since the MAS and even our government do not want to directly respond to us at all, not even to the various petitions, what else can we all do? I am just afraid that the momentum of such discussion will come to a STOP sooner or later when things started to 'cool' down.

Anonymous said...

Dear Mr Tan

What you have done so far is a selfless act and you deserve a place in Spore's history. make it better with what you done by not only petitioning but organizing proper legal action - as it is the last resort and perhaps only resort to get this whole saga out in the open Court when the questions asked will have to be answered.
