I do agree with the points raised by the swimmers' parents and the public in the matter of accountability. However, I also note that the underlying public anger could also stem from seeing public figures getting away scot-free despite numerous mistakes. So it's natural to want to see blood.

But I urge everyone to take a step back and note that Ang Peng Siong has done something that most others have not: he apologized.

Moreover, this mistake could have been averted had the association spent the extra money to fly someone to manage the administrative aspects of the race.

Now this.

Apologies? seasoned coaches? all humans are fallable? yeah sure.

If simple administrative task cannot be achieved, then we are indeed on the road to ruin.

I believe the task of registering can be completed by GCE O level or lower.
I could do it for a free ticket to the games.. count me in next round!
(and am jobless.)

Apology will be accepted if mistake is recognized and show sincerity to admit and see that it is rectified and can be avoid in the future. However, if lame excuses accompanied with apology then it is inevitable that people will not be happy especially it involve national reputation and tax payer's monies.

Why when it comes to sports events,
Singapore is so careless and immature, as a taxpayer, it pains me to have my tax $ so carelessly
misused and dismissed whenever some cock-ups crops up. Tired of
lame excuses.
