When not confronted with a question from the public face to face, our Govt leaders just keep mum, but when confronted with one
directly face to face, they could not escape, and tried to save face by brushing off the question , and instead ask the audience another unrelated question.
This is called looking left, and then right, instead of looking direct at the questioner and meet the challenge straight on.
It is a form of weakness, a lack of "nan ren qi kai", with so many Chinese educated MPs retiring, maybe the left behind English-
educated ones may not understand this proverb, or pretend not to understand, whichever is more convenient.

The government has explained its aim before. Singapore needs to grow a bigger pie. Only then, everyone can get a bigger share. If we aim for a smaller pie- yes, we can give the poor a proportionately bigger share of the pie. However, in the long term, the country as a whole will stagnate. The poor can no longer expect a big pie.

However, I also agree that the current policy may cause inflation to climb up very fast. And maybe the Govt. did not distribute the pie very well.

I do not have specialised economics knowledge. But I think what I have said is rational. The strategic aim is still to grow a bigger pie.
