Acquiring property for a public purpose

Here is an interesting article about the right of a Government to acquire property for a public purpose. This concept is called "eminent domain" in USA. Article. I find this article to be interesting, as we have a law that gives the Government the right to acquire property and that law has been used for many decades.

"Governments usually use eminent domain to take property from a private owner in order to turn it around and build something useful for the public good."

Sounds very nice.
Just remember to ask:

1.How many years before "something useful for the public good." is built?
10 years?
15 years?
40 years?

2.Who is this public good?
Please list the names of beneficiaries.
Need to make sure public good does not become personal gain.

Can't do anything here.
Poor Bt Sembawang, this listed Company has large tracts of land in Singapore.
With the ever green eyed PAP Govt hovering over the Board of Directors' heads, even the shareholders are jittery. The Elites could give a thousand reasons why huge tracts of private land has to be acquired for public use.
Always the damning excuse for PUBLIC USE.
